1 tsp soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup margarine
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1tsp. salt
3&1/2 cups flour
2 cups chopped nuts
1 lb chopped orange slice candy
1 box (8 oz) chopped dates
1 can (3.5 oz) coconut
Preheat oven to 300 F. Grease and flour an angel food cake pan.
Dissolve soda in buttermilk and set aside. Cream margarine and sugar. Add eggs one at a time and beat. Combine flour and salt. Set aside ½ of the mixture to dredge candy, nuts, and dates. Add ½ flour mixture alternately with soda-buttermilk mixture and blend. Stir in coconut and flour dredged candy-nut combination. Pour into prepared tube pan.
Bake for 1 hour and 50 minutes. Pour glaze over hot cake or leave plain.
Glaze: Mix 2 cups powdered sugar with 1 cup orange juice and stir until smooth.
